Welcome to Career Services at Ashford University! As an Ashford student or alumnus, you can use resources and tools from Career Services to search for jobs, to plan your career, and to achieve your greatest career potential.

Write to careerservices@ashford.edu to request career advice and guidance. When you send a message, please:

  • Attach a rough draft of your resume.
  • Tell us in detail how we can help you plan your career.
  • Indicate whether you are a student on campus or online.
With Career Services, you can find assistance with:
  • Searching for jobs
  • Writing resumes and cover letters
  • Preparing for interviews
  • Matching your degree to a career
  • Skills and personality assessment
Along with personal attention, you have access to tools such as Career Spot Videos. These 3-minute videos provide a wide variety of topics related to career planning and help you conduct your job search and plan your career.

Resumes

Your resume advertises your experience, skills, and education. It's a summary of your qualifications for a specific job opportunity. Consider it your personal marketing tool.
For your first resume, you have access to Resume Builder. Simply log in to your Student Portal and go to the Job Search & Resume Builder link under Career Services. Go to the My Documents tab, and click on the Resume Builder. To have a Career & Alumni Services Specialist review your resume, write to careerservices@ashford.edu and include the following:

  • A rough draft of your resume
  • A summary of your background
  • Indicate whether you're a student on campus or online
  • Tell us in detail how Career Services can help you plan your career.

A Career & Alumni Services Specialist will review the message and follow up with you.

Searching for Jobs

Students and alumni, search for jobs by visiting the Job Search and Resume Builder tool link in your Student Portal.

How Do You Get THAT Job?

Looking for a job takes time. Finding a good job means you have to network, because it's all about whom you know and who knows you. Before beginning your job search, know these guidelines:

  • Understand your strengths and what you can offer an employer. To prepare to interview in a manner that emphasizes your strengths and talents, complete this Strengths-Based Interview Activity.
  • Be efficient and stay focused.
  • Target specific organizations and companies that already employ people you know or can get to know.

Researching Companies

Reference USA – Located under Libraries in your Student Portal

  • Check organizations' career sites regularly in order to apply for the latest job postings that match your experience and goals.
  • Maintain a schedule and keep a log of your activities, with records of job boards, resources, and people who can help you.
  • Know where the jobs are.

Professional Associations Professional associations are a great way to network, gain professional development, and research different industries.
